Acceptable Use Policy.

What you can and cannot run on KeetonHosting infrastructure.

Last updated: November 4, 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) protects KeetonHosting customers, upstream partners, and the broader internet. It applies to every Service we offer, including hosting, domains, email, VPS, dedicated servers, and SSL. Your use of the Services is also governed by our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms of Service.

1. Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for all activity on your account, including activity by end users, employees, contractors, or anyone you allow to access the Services.
  • You must comply with this AUP, all applicable law, and any upstream provider or registrar policies that apply to your Services.
  • You must keep applications, plugins, themes, dependencies, and CMS software patched. Unpatched, exploited software that harms others is a violation of this AUP.
  • You must respond promptly to abuse notices, security notifications, and requests from KeetonHosting.

2. Prohibited content

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content that exploits, endangers, or sexualizes minors.
  • Content that infringes intellectual property, trademarks, publicity rights, or trade secrets.
  • Content that is defamatory, harassing, threatening, or that promotes violence, terrorism, or unlawful discrimination.
  • Content that violates any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation.
  • Pirated software, cracks, warez, key generators, or unlicensed streaming/IPTV services.
  • Content that facilitates illegal firearms sales, controlled substances, or human trafficking.

3. Prohibited technical activity

  • Sending unsolicited bulk email (UBE/spam), operating open mail relays, or evading anti-spam filters.
  • Hosting phishing pages, brand-impersonation kits, credential harvesters, or fake login portals.
  • Distributing malware, ransomware, exploit kits, spyware, keyloggers, or rootkits.
  • Operating command-and-control (C2) infrastructure, botnets, or malicious proxies.
  • Launching or facilitating attacks against third parties, including DDoS, port scanning, brute force, credential stuffing, or SQL injection.
  • Cryptocurrency mining on shared/multi-tenant hosting plans, or any activity that consumes disproportionate CPU, memory, disk I/O, or bandwidth relative to your plan.
  • Operating IRC servers, public proxies, TOR exit relays, or anonymization services on shared/multi-tenant hosting plans.
  • Attempting to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data that do not belong to you.
  • Circumventing usage limits, resource caps, security controls, or account restrictions.
  • Using the Services to test or scan networks or systems you do not own or have written permission to test.

4. Email and messaging rules

  • You must have documented, verifiable consent from every recipient before sending marketing or bulk email.
  • All bulk email must include a functioning unsubscribe mechanism and a valid physical postal address in accordance with the CAN-SPAM Act (US), CASL (Canada), and PECR/GDPR (EU/UK) where applicable.
  • You must honor unsubscribe requests within 10 business days (or sooner where required by law).
  • Reverse DNS, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records must be correctly configured for domains sending mail.
  • Purchased, harvested, or scraped mailing lists are strictly prohibited.
  • Excessive bounce rates, spam complaints, or blocklist listings may result in immediate suspension.

SMS/text-messaging campaigns sent through or on behalf of your KeetonHosting account must comply with the TCPA, CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices, and applicable carrier and 10DLC registration requirements. See the SMS section of our Privacy Policy for KeetonHosting’s own opt-in and opt-out practices.

5. Resource usage and fair use

  • Shared and reseller hosting plans are intended for typical website workloads. Sustained, disproportionate use of CPU, memory, disk I/O, inodes, database connections, or bandwidth may result in throttling, plan-upgrade requirements, or suspension.
  • You may not use shared hosting as a general-purpose file store, backup destination, CDN, media-streaming origin, or cryptocurrency mining rig.
  • VPS and dedicated Services are subject to fair-use, network, and DDoS-protection thresholds documented for each plan.

6. Security and vulnerability responsibilities

  • You must promptly remediate compromised sites, mailboxes, or servers when notified.
  • You must not run scans, penetration tests, red-team exercises, or automated exploit tooling against systems you do not own or have written authorization to test — including KeetonHosting infrastructure.
  • You must not attempt to bypass authentication, rate limits, WAF rules, or platform security controls.
  • Report security issues affecting KeetonHosting infrastructure to (480) 624-2500 or via the Contact page.

7. Domain-name compliance

  • You must provide and maintain accurate WHOIS/registrant contact information.
  • You may not register or use domain names in violation of trademark, service-mark, or personality rights, or in bad faith under the UDRP, URS, or similar dispute policies.
  • You must respond to registrar and registry compliance requests within the deadlines they specify; failure to do so can result in domain suspension.

8. Investigations, enforcement, and cooperation

We investigate reports of abuse and violations of this AUP. In response, we may — in our reasonable discretion and, where practical, with prior notice — take one or more of the following actions:

  • Contact you with a warning and a remediation deadline.
  • Filter, null-route, or firewall traffic associated with the offending Service.
  • Rate-limit, throttle, or restrict access to affected accounts or resources.
  • Remove or disable the specific content, script, or process causing the violation.
  • Suspend the Service in whole or in part.
  • Terminate the Service and the associated account for repeated, severe, or unresolved violations.
  • Cooperate with law enforcement, upstream providers, registries, and registrars, including preserving and disclosing records as required by law or valid legal process.

Egregious violations — including CSAM, active phishing, malware distribution, and outgoing attack traffic — may be suspended immediately and without prior notice to protect third parties and the network.

9. Reporting abuse

To report abuse originating from KeetonHosting-hosted infrastructure, please provide as much of the following information as possible:

  • Affected URL, hostname, IP address, or email header.
  • Timestamps of the activity, including time zone.
  • Relevant log excerpts, screenshots, or copies of offending messages (with full headers where applicable).
  • A description of the harm and any prior contact with the site operator.

Submit abuse reports by phone at (480) 624-2500 or through the Contact page. For DMCA notices, follow the process on the Contact page. We do not disclose reporter identity to the reported customer except as required by law.

10. Changes to this AUP

We may update this AUP from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page and the “Last updated” date at the top will be revised. Continued use of the Services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised AUP.
